this:
Greetings, For those that are following our summer, we just had our first week of camp at Kako.
Rebecca and I headed out to Kako on May 26th with a team from our church and friends in Fairbanks. They helped get camp
ready for summer kids camp. We got off to a late start, because our permits for kitchen/water were delayed, and we had to
postphone our first week of camp. We did some village visitation/outreach. God moved in miraculus ways, and made it
possible to have camp, and we just finished a great week with 31 campers.
Staffing is short, so all of us are kind of swamped with all that we need to do. Not even enough staff for a full camp.
But we had fun, the gospel was preached, we felt that the Truth was made known, and some gave their lives to Christ.
From my standpoint, as activities director, the week went very well, considering how little staff we had. I did not get
much sleep, trying to keep up with everything that needed to get done. Some highlights, and things that I would make
mention of:
A dock got built at the waterfront/pond, in which to get into canoes and tie them up to.
A deck got built part of the way around the rappelling tower, keeping ropes and equipment off the ground.
Plans are in the works for adding a new rock wall to the end of the tower, as I have time and energy.
The 'special' event on Wednesday afternoon(Which changes yearly) went pretty well, focusing on basics of first aid, search
and rescue, and medical emergencies.
Airsoft got off to a great start on Friday, with a new course partially finished. Nearly 40 guns in use. (I think we used
around 2000 bio-degradable rounds on Friday)
A brand new carpet ball table got built.
Got lots of maintenance stuff done around camp.
I was able to get the incline rock wall done, with it’s platform at the bottom. It definitely added a big challenge to the
wall, and added another rock wall lane.
It is really something to watch.
A huge hit this year was the addition of a new main event of Airsoft Wars. Quite impressed with the enthusiasm of
everyone. I think we went through 30,000 rounds of ammo.
Of course, we tried to take a couple breaks, and we headed down to the creek a couple times, and went fishing. Good
grayling fishing this year.
I also enjoyed doing some fly fishing, which I have not done for almost 20 years. My Dad
recently gave me some of his fly stuff.
I had fun doing that.
Once we got back to Fairbanks, we were able to go get some Salmon from Chitina.
(Copper River) Rebecca and I took our
Arctic Cat ATV and dip nets and got some good salmon put in the freezer. Was a good outing together.
